Let’s set the scene: we have arrived in Nadi, Fiji. It’s a balmy 30 degrees Celsius with high humidity that feels like a wet blanket lined with Velcro to make your clothes feel extra sticky. But like a mirage turning into reality, the taxi pulls up at the entry of The Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa. A soft, cool breeze greets us alongside a warm, resonant “Bula!” and a “Welcome home!” In those few simple moments, the true beauty of Fiji and our accommodation reveals itself.
Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa overview
Located only 25 minutes from Nadi International Airport, the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa is a five-star hotel that delivers a clever, multi-level experience for both couples and families alike. The resort features 296 ocean-facing rooms and suites, each equipped with a private balcony or patio. While the room configurations cater to just about any travelling group, there is a distinct, brilliant focus on keeping two very different types of travellers happy. The Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa has an adults only section called the Waitui Beach Club and a separate accommodation wing for guests who book the Club.
Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa Waitui Beach Club
For our two-night stay, we booked a Luxury Waitui King Room, designed exclusively for adults. The VIP treatment began immediately upon arrival. Instead of the standard lobby line, we were whisked away to the separate Waitui Beach Club reception in a golf buggy. This dedicated check-in area sits alongside a stunning adults-only pool, complete with a swim-up bar and a standalone kitchen.

Our Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa Waitui Beach Club room
Our room was located in the tranquil adults-only wing, a short stroll from the Beach Club. Nicely decorated in crisp whites and rich wood veneers, the Fijian motifs and soothing colour scheme practically scream “tropical island holiday”. Our room also had a luxurious king bed, a 55-inch TV, and a much-appreciated coffee pod machine. The large bathroom ticked every box for “happy soaking” with a rain shower and double vanities.
Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa free mini bar
A standout feature of our Waitui Beach Club room was the complimentary mini-bar, which is restocked daily. It came with a “swap service”. So, if you didn’t care for a particular item (like beer), you could replace it with something you actually wanted (hello, Coke Zero!). The catch? You have to take your unwanted goodies to the second floor of the accommodation wing to a room next to the lifts to do the exchange. It’s a fun, slightly quirky experience and who doesn’t love free drinks and snacks!
Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa Waitui Beach Club pool
After a quick refresh, we made a beeline for the Waitui Beach Club pool. This adults-only space features private cabanas, shaded deck chairs with ocean views, and a swim-up bar to keep everyone properly hydrated. It’s the kind of peaceful haven that makes parents with younger kids look over the fence with pure envy. Like us, their kids will grow up and their time to come here will arrive before they know it. There is also a complimentary cocktail hour here every afternoon from 5pm to 6pm, and treats throughout the day.

Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa restaurants
When the sun goes down, the resort transforms into a culinary playground with five distinct dining concepts scattered across the property. For those who love variety, the Bazaar Kitchen & Bar serves as a vibrant hub featuring six distinct live cooking stations, making it an incredibly popular choice for families. Warning: this restaurant gets VERY busy during the school holidays.

KOKO offers an authentic taste of Fijian cuisine sourced directly from the land and sea, while Solis Restaurant leans into a Mediterranean-inspired seafood menu in a gorgeous beachside setting. Naturally, adults seeking a quieter evening can retreat back to the waterfront tables of the Waitui Bar & Grill, which specialises in premium steaks and local seafood. We loved our meal here as the food was great and, as the restaurant is adults-only, there were no children during our busy school holiday stay.

On our first evening, we were drawn to Madame So, a dedicated Vietnamese and Pan-Asian restaurant. Aside from the fantastic, fragrant dishes, it holds one massive secret weapon that made it our easy winner for the night: glorious, blissful air conditioning. Plus, the dishes weren’t just delicious, they were well priced and perfect to share. Add a bowl of rice or some vegetables and your holiday dollar goes a long way here. We enjoyed this restaurant so much that we went there twice during our stay.
Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa tips
Between relaxing and dining, our stay was punctuated by lazy strolls through the lush grounds and an afternoon at the Sofitel Spa. This dedicated wellness sanctuary consists of individual thatched villas that steep you in the fragrances and textures of Fiji.
The spa offers everything from traditional massages to a full-service hair salon and a dedicated pedicure room. We even experienced the bonus of a sudden tropical downpour during our treatment, which provided a beautifully dramatic acoustic soundtrack. This was followed by an even more adventurous, rain-soaked sprint back to our room.

Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa Club Lounge
Part of what makes the Sofitel stand out are the thoughtful, hidden extras that elevate the entire guest experience. Tucked quietly behind the main reception is the exclusive Sofitel Fiji’s Executive Lounge, accessible to Accor Platinum, Diamond, and Black-Limitless members, as well as Suite and Waitui Plus guests. We really enjoyed this quiet haven (and its air conditioning) and can highly recommend the refined à la carte breakfast and the evening cocktail hour. The service here was great!

Even the sleep experience gets a bespoke upgrade thanks to the resort’s dedicated Pillow Exchange, a unique little shop where you can physically browse a menu and select your perfect pillow match for the duration of your stay. We were surprised what a difference this made and found ourselves wishing that other hotels offered this service, especially when you’re there for multiple nights like we were.
However, if you’re flying with Fiji Airways, your favourite thing might be the dedicated Fiji Airways Check-In Desk located right next to the lobby. Anyone flying with Fiji’s national carrier can check in their luggage and get their boarding passes printed at the hotel. When it comes time to head home, you simply bypass the airport terminal queues entirely and walk straight to the departure gate. This is an absolute lifesaver if you are a family travelling with little ones and lots of luggage.
Is The Sofitel Fiji Resort And Spa good for families?
While we happily tucked ourselves into the adults-only side of life, it’s impossible to ignore the fact that the family market is one of the resort’s greatest strengths. With 12 different room and suite types on offer, even the fussiest little princes and princesses are happy here. Between the action-packed Niu Beach Club for Kids, a dedicated Teen Zone, thrilling water slides, and a massive lagoon pool, the resort seamlessly ticks every single box a parent could dream of.
That popularity, however, brings with it a couple of important realities to consider before booking. First is the price tag. Top-tier resorts are popular for a reason, and the prices at the Sofitel Fiji can be high during the school holidays. If you’re travelling as a couple, do yourself a favour and bypass the super expensive school holidays entirely. If you’re a family, book in advance, budget for extras, and rest assured that while a stay here might impact your wallet, the experience is worth every cent.
Embrace Fiji time at the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa
You may have heard about the concept of “Fiji time”. The easiest way to explain it is “Fiji time” is a local philosophy that values family, relaxation, serenity, and a beautifully unhurried pace. For those of us arriving with a frantic Western mindset, this chilled service can initially feel like both a blessing and a curse. If you are the type of traveller who gets agitated waiting more than two minutes for a drink order, take a deep breath and let it go. Once you relax, you will learn to love the unhurried pace and will be trying your hardest to pack it in your suitcase when you leave.

Is The Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa Worth It?
Overall, the Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa deserves a glowing five stars. This is a Fiji resort that caters equally well to couples and families, with an impressive choice of restaurants that are worth staying in for. The Sofitel Fiji Resort & Spa has a great location near the port where most day trips depart from but, really, when you’re staying at a great hotel like this, it is tempting to stay put.
Disclosure: The writers paid for their stay at The Sofitel Resort & Spa. They highly recommend staying at this hotel and have already booked a second visit.
