Get some sun with your bun at some of Brisbane’s best burger joints. From Chur Burger with its retro Space Invaders machine and unlimited free games to funky Brooklyn Depot at South Bank and the classic menu at Ben’s Burgers, we round up some of the best spots to grab a burger in Brisbane.

Ben’s Burgers West End

Located in the heart of Fortitude Valley, Ben’s Burgers prove that small is beautiful with a menu featuring just four burgers. The Cheesy, smothered in gooey cheese that will have you licking your fingers, is the most popular. However, the old-school Classic burger is equally good. Non-carnivores flock here for the Veg which is piled high with mushroom, parmesan and Swiss cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, onion and aioli. Allow time to browse the funky boutiques in Winn Lane after you’ve eaten.

Miel Container

Are you particular about what’s on your burger?  If so, Miel Container is for you. This funky fire engine red burger bar housed in a shipping container offers a design-your-own menu for those who take their burgers seriously, with ingredients like grilled pumpkin and crumbed chicken thighs. There is also a standard menu featuring classics such as the New York burger and innovative creations like the Crunch Prawn. If you are heading across town, a new (much larger) Miel Container has just opened at Sunnybank.

The Pav Bar

Pull up a seat in the The Pav Bar’s shady outdoor courtyard at the Stamford Brisbane and take your taste buds for a trip around the world with The Magnificent 7. Whether you prefer beef, chicken, lamb, pork or vego, there is a burger for you. Opt for the classic Aussie with caramelised onion and beetroot, a flame-thrower Korean burger or a Mexican flavour fiesta featuring pulled pork, avocado, roasted red peppers, red onion and slaw. The Magnificent 7 are available from Monday to Friday for $22 each, including fries and a glass of wine, beer or soft drink.

DA’Burger

Unleash your creativity on the walls and check out the graffiti art by famous past diners at DA’Burger in New Farm. Patties are made by the butcher next door so nothing gets frozen and the relish, chilli and red onion jams, and mint sauce is homemade by Chrissie, a family friend of the owner. Try the lamb Sunday Roast burger, with sweet potato and mint sauce, which celebrates the traditional Sunday night dinner. The Cure is rumoured to be the perfect hangover cure for those who hit the Valley’s bars the night before. Beer matches are included on the menu for true burger connoisseurs.

Chur Burger

With its curved booths, bright graffiti art and funky Fortitude Valley location, Chur Burger is undeniably cool. Add a Space Invaders machine with free games (just ask the staff for credits) and old school amusements like Giant Jenga and Connect Four, and you have got yourself the perfect hangout spot. If you prefer something other than beef on your bun, Chur Burger delivers with the likes of grilled lamb with mint sauce, feta, red onion and aioli and the Signature Burger featuring crispy pork belly, aioli, chilli caramel and slaw.

Brooklyn Depot

Brooklyn Depot delivers an Insta-worthy flavour hit with towering, saucy burgers dripping with melted cheese that are guaranteed to get your followers drooling. Names like the Filthy Pilgrim, featuring succulent turkey breast, homemade gravy and herbed stuffing crumble, and the Fuhgeddaboudit! (watch out for the ‘lethal injection’ of hot sauce) will raise a smile. Sides such as crispy onion strings, ‘pimped’ chicken winglets and frickles (crispy fried pickle ‘coins’ served with Brooklyn Depot special sauce) add yet another reason to visit.  Depot shakes are served old-school-style in a tall, frosty metal cup and can be ordered PG or AO, with a shot of alcohol for the big kids.

Disclosure: The writer loves beetroot on her burger but isn’t a fan of the traditional Aussie fried egg.
