Murwillumbah the Tweed River & Wollumbin (Mount Warning)

If you’re heading to the Tweed in northern New South Wales, here are some of the best Murwillumbah accommodation options to stay at while you enjoy Murwillumbah’s many things to do. As accommodation in downtown Murwillumbah isn’t plentiful, we’ve also included a few of our favourites that are a short drive from town for those after an upmarket rural stay. Welcome to ‘The Impy’, a classic Australian hotel with stylish touches that will make your stay memorable and comfortable. The Imperial Hotel is also historic, having burnt down twice before being rebuilt in 1931 in the Art Deco style that was popular at the time. In 2016, it had an extensive refurbishment with the guest rooms getting ensuites, flatscreen TVs and fridges. The stylish rooms come in single, queen and queen deluxe rooms which have a small kitchenette. You also have the added benefit of having a gastro pub below for all your dining and entertainment needs.

Murwillumbah Motor Inn

This classic, cosy Murwillumbah accommodation is a two-minute walk to central Murwillumbah for dining, art, shopping, and entertainment. Murwillumbah Motor Inn has 31 rooms in multiple configurations, including coffee/tea-making facilities, a microwave and toaster, and complimentary wireless internet access throughout the property. A swimming pool and barbecue area are located at the front of the hotel, for self-catering and chilling out on warm summer days.

Tweed River Motel

Originally the Tweed River ferry captain’s home, this classic country house on the banks of the river is the perfect low-cost Murwillumbah accommodation option. This old-style YHA hostel is quaint and charming, with views over the river and gardens, plus a communal kitchen and free Wi-Fi. The convivial atmosphere here will allow you to meet people from around Australia and the world, perfect for group BBQs or evening get-togethers in the dining area or veranda.

As the name suggests, this hotel is a short walk to the Tweed Regional Art Gallery and a lovely 3-star hotel with king and queen room configurations. Gallery Motel rooms feature a minibar fridge, coffee/tea-making machines, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a flat-screen TV with satellite channels. This family-run hotel is close to all the Murwillumbah attractions like the Rail Trail that runs past across the road and great dining nearby at the Tweed River House, one of our favourite restaurants, which is just a short walk away.

Olley Apartments

This charming 1930s Art Deco brick duplex is just a short stroll from the town centre. Renovated in classic retro style and decorated with antiques and beautiful art, the Olley Apartments has two queen bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a lounge room and a gorgeous bathroom. There are also lovely front and rear veranda areas with seating and sun chairs, with views of the beautiful gardens. All of Murwullimbah’s attractions are just down the road, so shopping, dining, and sightseeing is easy.

La Rocher

Nestled in the foothills of Wollumbin (Mount Warning), La Rocher Eco Retreat in the heart of the Tweed Valley near Uki has spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and bushland. A king bed with fireplace, kitchen and stunning bathroom with a view are unique. A big plus is the veranda with views of Wollumbin and the surrounding bushland. A short drive away is Mavis’s Kitchen, a stunning venue for lunches with beautiful local produce. Other amenities at La Rocher include a Balinese-inspired pool area, which also has views and is an excellent place for a dip and relaxation.

Origin House Carool

Welcome to a bespoke luxury escape with its own coffee plantation as a bonus. Origin House offers designer digs with 2 king bedrooms with large ensuites, free wifi, TV and streaming services and a fully equipped kitchen and washing machine. A stay here also includes pantry staples and breakfast pack for all guests. The views are excellent, and the firepit and lounges are perfect for a winter stay. The wine, local cheeses, and fresh produce from nearby farms are also amazing. This divine accommodation is also only minutes from Potager, an award-winning restaurant.
